Greek pianist Tania Giannouli has expanded her worldview with a different theme for each album, including duos with woodwind players, chamber music, and collaborations with Maori musicians and oud players. Now, with her fifth release, she offers an album of solo piano music, a dense and concentrated summary of her artistic ideas and temperament. The album features innovative and dynamic performances, such as (on track 1), internal techniques that evoke an Erik Satie-like mysticism; (on track 4), a loop-like sound using various prepared piano techniques; and (on track 9), a five-beat piece that evokes moods from the Middle East. SOLO is a very original and dynamic work.
