Phil Dadson

Phil Dadson's work with From Scratch was described by Wystan Curnow as, “among the greatest works in any art form to come of this country”.

While studying for his fine arts degree in 1968/69, Phil's experience as a member of Scratch Orchestra in London galvanised his intermedia approach to art and music making. He founded Scratch Orchestra (NZ) in 1970, then the music/performance group From Scratch in 1974, which performed to wide acclaim throughout the world.

Phil retired from his position as senior lecturer and head of Intermedia at Elam at the end of 2001, and now devotes his energies to his own work.
