Mundane Life Updates

Frank Talbot

You may wonder why Frank Talbot called this album "Mundane Life Updates", especially as the music is far from mundane! It’s a term he and his partner use when they share the small quotidian details of their day. Many of Frank's compositions are based on such events, as he believes that music is a perfect medium to express the unique experiences of everyday life.

Frank has nailed it with his recording Mundane Life Updates. The Jazz spirit is very much alive and well on this recording. The best way to appreciate what Frank and his ensemble are saying with this music is to purchase the recording and, naturally, support the live performances when this material can be heard on tour in early 2023. Support New Zealand music.” — Rodger Fox

Frank TALBOT

Growing up in Devonport, Frank quickly developed an aptitude for music at a young age, becoming the head of the Takapuna Grammar School Concert Band and Big Band and being one of the country’s top scholars in NCEA Music. At 17 he moved to Wellington to study at the New Zealand School of Music, where he soon became the lead tenor saxophonist of the university’s top big band. He was twice named Woodwind Player of the Year, twice made the Dean’s List, the Therle Drake award for being the top performer, and a finalist in the Concerto Competition.

Frank has had a vast and varied performance career, twice touring Eastern Europe with the JM Jazz World Orchestra, performing and recording in the USA with the Rodger Fox Big Band, first clarinet for the Royal New Zealand Air Force Band, lead tenor for the Air Force Jazz Orchestra, performing with the New Zealand String Quartet, playing, touring and recording with the Julie Lamb Outfit, playing lead tenor and clarinet (soloist) for the Queen City Big Band, and taking his own quartet on a number of successful tours around New Zealand. MUNDANE LIFE UPDATES is Frank's debut for Rattle.
