The music of Norman Meehan primarily explores the way harmonic and instrumental choices that shape one’s experience of melody. He has been privileged to work collaboratively with many extraordinarily creative people: Hannah Griffin, Bill Manhire, Hayden Chisholm, Paul Dyne, Colin Hemmingsen, Blair Latham, Nick van Dijk, Anne Noble, Thomas Voyce, Michael Stewart, Daniel Ryland, Neil Aldridge, Fergus Barrowman, Robert Hoskins and Michael Brown.
Norman’s Rattle recordings include instrumental performances by the group Unwind with Hayden Chisholm, Paul Dyne and (more recently) Julien Dyne, and song settings of New Zealand poetry with Hannah Griffin and Bill Manhire. These days his music lies outside the republic of jazz, although he occasionally glances back, across the border.
