The chamber music of Lyell Cresswell deserves wider attention, especially in his native country, so it is with enormous pride that we offer this excellent collection.

Lyell is one of New Zealand’s most important contemporary composers. He has written for most genres and settings across a broad classical spectrum, but much of his chamber music (particularly unrecorded songs and piano works) have remained unrecorded—until now. The Art of Black and White addresses that, and Stephen de Pledge is the ideal pianist for this material.
