This Appearing World

Crispell | Henderson | Nunns

Delicate, intimate, poignant, emotionally complex, otherworldly, intermittently unsettling, sonically explorative, texturally inventive, occasionally confrontational, cinematic in scope, This Appearing World is a beautifully produced voyage into sonically uncharted territory. The old-world sonorities of taonga pūoro are once again drawn into a challenging contemporary setting. Marilyn Crispell and Jeff Henderson weave sensitive textures and nuances around the evocative sounds of Richard Nunns, and all thirteen pieces simultaneously evoke ancient and post-apocalyptic vistas.

Rattle has never been shy of music that follows its own compass, and this uncompromising work again shows our willingness to commit to projects that defy musical barriers. Comprised entirely of improvisational dialogues, this CD/DVD was recorded during a brief visit to New Zealand from American pianist, Marilyn Crispell.
