Since they started playing together in the early 2000s, NZTrio has actively promoted the work of New Zealand composers, and no album does that with more enthusiasm than Lightbox.
Through performances, regular commissions, and recordings, they’ve shared this music with audiences throughout Aotearoa, and proudly showcased them at international festivals. The trio love to perform homegrown gems, and in every concert they include at least one New Zealand work.
The diversity of styles and strength of New Zealand composition is clearly evident on this album. Of the seven works on offer, five are NZTrio commissions, while the other two (by Chris Gendall and Samuel Holloway) have become firm favourites in the trio’s repertoire.
